Kíváncsi vagyok, a nőnemű virágokra, a nőivarú növényekre is kiterjed ez a korlátozás? Akkor vajon mit esznek? Szíven ütött, hogy a tyúkok azért tojhatnak nekik :(
Mi lehet ott (Görögországban), biztosan évek óta megy a vita blogokon, újságokban, gondoljatok bele, hogy a Rudassal is mi volt, ahhoz képest ez ezerszer nehezebb, megvívni az ortodoxiával. Szerencsére a Rudas nem kapott fél-autonómiát meg adókedvezményt :)) |

Mount Athos is a semi autonomous mountain in northern Greece. There are some 20 Eastern Orthodox monasteries on the island and the only inhabitants are monks. Based on a historic agreement with the Greek state, only men are allowed entrance into Mount Athos. Greek human rights activists want to change this. They say that it is discrimination of women.
The dilemma is: Should the old treaty between the monastries and the Greek state be respected (to keep the island for men only) or should Athos be open for both women and men?

Monks feel that the presence of women alters the social dynamics of the community and therefore slows the path towards spiritual enlightenment. It is incorrect to suggest that the prohibition is in order to reduce sexual temptation. This myth has earned the Holy Mountain a certain amount of unnecessary notoriety. However, female domestic animals are forbidden (with the exception of cats, which keep down the rodent population, and chickens, which lay eggs that provide the fresh egg yolk needed for the paint used in iconography). The interdiction is punished by imprisonment from one to two years. The European parliament has urged Greece twice to change this rule, but the demand was rejected.
Athos did shelter refugees including women and girls twice in its history: during the aftermath of the failed 1770 Orlov Revolt, and during the Greek War of Independence in 1821.
There was an incident in the 1930s regarding Aliki Diplarakou, the first Greek beauty pageant contestant to win the Miss Europe title, who shocked the world when she dressed up as a man and sneaked into Mount Athos. Her escapade was discussed in the July 13, 1953 Time magazine article entitled The Climax of Sin.

Abaton
(görög, annyi mint «hozzáférhetetlen»), az Artemisia, káriai királynénak a rodusiak legyőzetése emlékére emelt oszlop, mely köré később a rodusiak épületeiket építették, hogy megveretésük szégyenletes emlékét vele elpalástolhassák. A.-nak híják még a göröghitű templomokban a függönyökkel elrekesztett kart.

Abaton
(gör., a. m. hozzáférhetetlen), az a szentély, v. a templomkerületnek az a része, melybe v. egyáltalán nem, v. csak bizonyos időben, bizonyos személyeknek volt szabad belépni. Igy nevezték Asklepiosnak epidaurosi szentélyében azt a csarnokot, ahol a betegek aludtak és ahol az Isten őket álmukban meglátogatta és meggyógyította (incubatio).

Egy 1045 óta érvényben lévő tilalmat a szó szoros értelmében lábbal tiporva kedden mintegy ötszáz tüntető közé vegyülve nők is behatoltak a görögországi Áthosz hegyén lévő, autonóm jogállású ortodox "szerzetesi köztársaság" területére, hogy így tiltakozzanak az ellen, amit ők "a közterület kisajátításának" tekintenek a papok részéről. A kivezényelt rendőrség a továbbiakban visszaszorította a tüntetőket. Hat nő ellen eljárás indulhat azzal a váddal, hogy megszegték a rájuk vonatkozó, abaton nevű tilalmat, amely ellen több feminista mozgalom emelte már fel szavát, és Európai Parlament is felszólította Görögországot a középkori szabályozás megszüntetésére.
